This poster shows a variety of STEM subjects that elementary students can explore—from engineering and robotics to aerospace, multimedia, and more. As STEM teachers, we know there’s only so much time, space, and resources available, so you probably won’t teach every single subject listed here—and that’s completely okay.
If you’re just starting out, I recommend looking into CTE (Career and Technical Education) pathways to get a sense of what real-world STEM fields look like. From there, you can backwards plan and decide which subjects make the most sense for your students and setting.
These are the subjects I chose to focus on in my own program, but your choices might look very different depending on your school. For example, I’m one of two STEM teachers at my school. While I emphasize engineering, robotics, and computer science, the other STEM teacher focuses more on science and agriculture. Both approaches are valid—it’s all about building a program that works for your community.
