Here are examples of STEM scopes, lessons, and units implemented throughout the school year. Each scope has been thoughtfully curated by different educators, and shared here with their permission to inspire and support others in building meaningful STEM programs. Every STEM teacher should aim to build a yearlong scope of their own.
My yearlong scope serves as a digital lesson planner, organized by rotations rather than traditional units or weekly plans. At my school, each grade level includes five classroom teachers. This means I teach the same STEM unit over a five-week rotation. While each grade focuses on a different unit, all rotations begin and end at the same time. For example, Rotation 1 (red) runs from August 28 through September 27. During this window, every class in a grade works on the same unit, and I repeat that unit for each of the five classrooms. To serve nearly 800 students, we implement “Enrichment Weeks,” (purple) dedicated weeks during which I see each class once per week. These weeks help ensure more equitable instructional minutes and increase overall contact time with students. All of my lesson plans are directly linked to Google Slides, making instruction smooth, consistent, and easily accessible across rotations. This system keeps everything centralized and allows for timely planning, delivery, and updates throughout the year.
